Overall Winner - Design Excellence Award

'The Grange'

James Collins

This building displays a highly successful response to the brief and an admirable approach to the modern contemporary aesthetic.

The design shows thought and respect to the site constraints along with the occupants’ ideals and provides an inspiring palette for art and innovation.

The building is beautifully articulated by form and materials, suits its bush setting and typography while displaying a highly successful response to the brief.

Paul Dass Memorial Award

'Gunyi Retreat'

Simon Croker

This award is given to a designer for outstanding achievement in building design and is the penultimate award, BDA Australia’s overall runner up.

The Jury could not look past this project for the Paul Dass Award!

The designer’s understanding and respect for place is evident in this well proportioned, classically designed building.

Gunyi Retreat certainly achieves the clients’ brief and demonstrates the outstanding achievement in building design this Award seeks to recognise.

Special Jury Award for Social Housing

'Workable Living Project'

Ashley Foote

This ground-breaking housing project serves an essential purpose for the community by enabling disabled adults to live independently.

The project is designed to meet platinum levels of liveable housing guidelines, as well as being fully disabled accessibility compliant.

The design process was collaborative, working closely with residents and their carers to select textures and colours and individual relationships with outdoor spaces; the result is solar passive, energy efficient functional home.

This project has enhanced the lives of the residents, they have greater capacity to direct their lives, make choices, undertake responsibilities of daily living, and engage in life productively.

The Design Awards Jury wished to recognise not only the excellent design outcomes this project delivers but more importantly acknowledge this project for its ability to do what all great design should do ‘transform the lives of those who are touched by it’.

A full presentation of all the Winning Designs is being developed and will soon be available to view through this page - in the interim all winners and entrants can be seen in the WINNING Design Australia 'E'book linked at the top of the page.

Congratulations to All
