This project is a love letter to Brutalism, celebrating bold and striking design elements that pay homage to Iwanoff while blending tradition with contemporary aesthetics.
Chris Reardon Memorial Award for Sustainable Buildings

Talina Edwards – Huff’n’Puff Haus

Talina Edwards won the Chris Reardon Memorial Award for Sustainable Buildings for Huff’n’Puff Haus. Designed by Talina Edwards, Huff’n’Puff Haus is a remarkable example of regenerative design, exceeding the traditional notions of beauty by focusing on ethical responsibility and care for both people and the planet.
Located in Ruffy, Victoria, this home was designed to be efficient, self-sufficient, and low in carbon footprint, all while prioritising resilience and adaptability. The use of natural and non-toxic materials, combined with innovations like prefabricated strawbale wall panels, contribute to its sustainability and eco-friendliness.
Beyond its striking appearance, it’s a true zero-carbon, passivhaus plus standard, and accessible dwelling that embodies the essence of ethical and sustainable design.

Ashley Beaumont – Beaumont Building Design
Ecoliv Yea Off Grid

Ashley Beaumont won Commendation for Chris Reardon Memorial Award for Sustainable Buildings for Ecoliv Yea Off Grid. Ashley Beaumont, armed with three decades of building design experience, founded Ecoliv with a strong commitment to sustainability, a vision impeccably realised in the Yea Off Grid project. This modular home proudly boasts a remarkable 7-star energy rating while adhering to sustainable practices that minimise waste through the strategic use of 900mm building materials and recycling.
Nestled in a tranquil valley where the Yea and Goulburn rivers converge, this dwelling serves as a serene retreat from the hustle and bustle of urban life. It operates autonomously, thanks to a PV solar array and a 13.2kWh battery storage system, which capture rainwater and treat wastewater on-site, ensuring operational carbon neutrality.
The Yea Off Grid project champions sustainable construction methods, incorporating recycled glass Earthwool Batts, energy-efficient Vantage double-glazed doors and windows, and low-formaldehyde materials like Greenfirst by Laminex, boasting an impressive E0 rating.
Solar power takes center stage with a 7.4kw off-grid system and battery storage, rendering the Yea Project a self-sustaining energy hub. A successful blower door test underscores the project’s commitment to energy efficiency, resulting in improved air tightness and air quality.
Thermal Design Excellence Award

Kendra Clancy – Opal Street

Kendra Clancy ‘Opal Street’ won the Thermal Design Excellence Award category. Kendra Clancy, a thermal performance assessor with a passion for sustainable living, brings her expertise to the Opal Street project. With a background in commercial and upscale residential projects, Kendra’s career spans over two decades, including a tenure as an Environmentally Sustainable Design consultant and accreditation as an Energy Rater.
Opal Street exemplifies Easy Building Green’s integrated design and construction approach, achieving an impressive 6.0-star energy rating. This success is attributed to the strategic insulation and sealing of the existing structure and clever passive design elements in the extension, such as cross-flow ventilation, north-facing glazing, and efficient layouts.
Kendra’s commitment to sustainability, coupled with her knack for early customer engagement and design integrity, has consistently delivered high-quality outcomes in her collaborations with Easy Building Green. Opal Street stands as a testament to her dedication to eco-conscious, cost-effective, and aesthetically pleasing renovations.
Passive House Award
Winner
Tracy Graham – Rowntree Street Passive House
Connected Design

Tracy Graham ‘Rowntree Street Passive House’ won the Passive House Award category. Tracy Graham, Director of Connected Design, is renowned for her expertise in collaborative and streamlined building design that places a premium on sustainability and value. The Rowntree Street Passive House project in Balmain is a testament to her vision and skill.
Despite the challenges of a compact 101.2 sqm block, Tracy’s innovative approach resulted in a generous 110 sqm of living space, featuring a master bedroom with breathtaking city views, all while meeting the rigorous Passivhaus standards.
The outcome is a certified Passivhaus that harmonises beauty, comfort, and sustainability, offering a model for future generations of environmentally conscious design.
