What does it mean to create a home that is genuinely better for the health of the people who live in it, as well as the environment?

This is something Building Biology New Build Consultant and Founder of The Healthy Home, Zara D’Cotta, has considered carefully in the 10 years since she was diagnosed with cancer and environmental illness, and through three years of study focused on the health impacts of home design and building materials.

In this presentation Zara will share:

  • What is Building Biology?

  • The five pillars of The Healthy Home.

  • Why decisions made with the environment in mind aren’t always better for the human, (and how to balance the need for both).

  • The most important thing that needs to happen before designs are drawn, to give the homes you design the best chance of enabling each household member to thrive.

Learning Outcomes

  • List the five pillars of a healthy home.

  • Explain what needs to happen before designs are drawn, in order to create a healthy home.

  • Identify at least three potential health hazards that could be mitigated in the design stage.
