Ikea has started a collaboration with Tom Dixon, a British industrial designer to enable homeowners the chance of setting up their own home based hydroponics farm. The new concept will be available in all Ikea shops from 2021.

The Range and Supply Leader in Ikea, James Futcher told the press that “For Ikea, this collaboration is about challenging the way society looks at growing in general and addressing that it’s both possible and rewarding to have a place to grow your own plants in the city. Food is key to humanity and design can support with better solutions.”

Dixon will help Ikea design a compact hydroponics unit to fit into urban settings, compact backyards, small apartments, the future of the inner city will create prime food sources in the center of prime property locations.
