Building has begun on a 15-storey office tower in central Brisbane, one designed by John Wardle Architects.

The building, located at 895 Ann Street in Fortitude Valley, was approved for building by the Brisbane City Council in 2019. Developers DWS and Consolidated Property Group have assigned Hutchinson Builders to build the $260 million development, which they anticipate for completion in the first quarter of 2023.

The architects intend the tower to be versatile in use, as the spec development is supposed to accommodate many different residents over its lifespan.

The planning documents state that the building addresses the shifting ways of work, accommodating the different conditions needed to create an appealing work environment.

The design also stands to thrive in the subtropical climate, with a main built feature standing in the form of the “outdoor room” atop the podium, which will brim with greenery—as will the podium façade.

The structure will be situated in close proximity to another commercial development designed by John Wardle Architects at 900 Ann Street, built in 2018.
