The Victorian government has announced dual sites for constructing new social and affordable housing as part of its $5.3 billion Big Housing Build program.
To be constructed beside standing public housing in Collingwood and South Yarra, the homes will join many other projects already in progress in the program to deliver more than 12,000 new homes.
At Wellington Street in Collingwood, the project will produce 150 houses.
Fieldwork has been named principal design consultant for the Collingwood project, while Hayball has been enhancing the masterplan for the project on Simmons Street in South Yarra, which will involve 330 new homes delivered in stage one.
The Big Housing Build is not only supplying a home for Victorians in need – it’s providing thousands of local jobs and promoting the state’s economic recovery, said James Merlino on 27 June, his last day as acting premier.
Housing minister Richard Wynne said that housing is most greatly required in locations such as Collingwood and South Yarra – in direct proximity to school, job opportunities, health services and public transportation.
Projects in progress include Dunlop Street, Ascot Vale, Marhham Street, Ashburton, Victoria Street, Flemington, Tarakan Street, Heidelberg West and Bill Street, Hawthorn and Elizabeth Street, North Richmond.
