This prestigious accreditation not only signifies a designer's adherence to the highest standards of professional competency and ethical practice but also enhances their credibility and marketability in a competitive industry.

Accredited professionals are seen as leaders in their field, equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to meet the evolving demands of the built environment. Why Become BDAA Accredited?

Accreditation is a formal recognition of your competency to perform various tasks within the building design industry. It signifies your professional credibility and adherence to industry standards. Accreditation is typically issued in the form of a license or registration by state or federal government departments.

In Tasmania, Queensland, and Victoria, building designers are regulated by state-specific laws, and certification is required. In New South Wales, accreditation by the BDAA is mandatory for designing projects under the Low Rise Medium Density Complying Development Code. It's also required by the NSW Department of Community Services (DoCS) for building designers working in the child care industry.

While a formal nationwide regulatory system is still in development, other states and territories are moving towards similar requirements.

Voluntary Accreditation

The BDAA has introduced an independent accreditation system to elevate the standards of building construction documentation and professionalism. Our accreditation is open to all building design practitioners who are not covered by other recognized schemes. The program is endorsed by leading educational institutions, industry bodies, and government agencies such as Central Queensland University, Victoria University, TAFE NSW, and the Master Builders Association (MBA).

The accreditation assessment is based on the national training package for building designers, ensuring that our members meet current industry standards. These standards are continually updated in collaboration with the Australian Industry Skills Council (AISC).

Maintaining Accreditation

Accreditation with the BDAA requires ongoing engagement in Continuing Professional Development (CPD), maintaining appropriate levels of Professional Indemnity (PI) Insurance, and undergoing regular audits of completed works. This commitment ensures that accredited members remain at the forefront of the profession.
